"The Poet"

In his essay`The Poet', Ralph Waldo Emerson,

 states that the Poet `stands one step nearer to things',

and `turns the world to glass.'

One hundred years, later, 

Wallace Stevens,

also, from New England,

described the Poet,

As a `man of glass,

who in a million diamonds

sums us up.'
