"Ballad of a Runaway Horse"

Say a Prayer
for the Cowgirl,  her Horse Ran away
She'll Walk till she Finds him, her Darlin' her Stray
But the River's in Flood, and the Roads are Awash
And the Bridge's Break up, in the Panic of Loss.

And there's Nothing to Follow, No where to go
He's Gone Like the Summer, Gone Like the Snow
And the Crickets are Breaking her Heart with their Song
As the Day Caves in, and the Night is all Wrong.

Did she Dream,
was it he, who went Galloping Past
And Bent down the Fern, Broke open the Grass
And Printed the Mud, with the Well-hammered Shoe
That she Nailed to his Feet,
in the Dreams Of her Youth.

And although he goes Grazin',  a Minute Away
She Tracks him all Night, she Tracks him all Day
And she's Blind to his Presence, Except to Compare
Her Injury Here, with his Punishment There.

Then at Home on a Branch,
 on a High Stream
A Songbird Sings out, so Suddenly
And the Sun is Warm and the Soft Winds Ride
On a Willow Tree, by the Riverside.

Ah,
 the World is Sweet
 and the World is Wide
He's there where the Light, and the Darkness Divide
And the Steam's comin' off him, he's Huge and he's Shy
And he Steps on the Moon, when he Paws at the Sky.

And he Comes to her Hand,
 but he's Not really Tame
He Longs to be Lost, she Longs for the Same
And he'll Bolt and he'll Plunge, through the first Open Pass
To Roll and to Feed, in the Sweet Mountain Grass.

Or he'll make a Break for the High Plateau
Where there's Nothing Above, or Nothing Below
It's Time for their Burden, the Whip and the Spur
Will she Ride with Him, or Will he Ride with Her.

So she Binds herself, to her Galloping Steed
And he Binds himself to the Woman in Need
And there is No Space, just Left and Right
And there is No Time,
But there is Day and Night.

Then she Leans on his Neck,
 and Whispers Low
Whither thou Goest, I will Go
And they Turn as One, and they Head for the Plain
No Need for the Whip, No Need for the Rein.

Now the Clasp of this Union,
who Fastens it Tight
Who Snaps it Asunder, the very Next Night
Some Say it's Him, some Say it's Her
Some say Love's like Smoke, Beyond all Repair.

So my Darlin',
my Darlin', just Let it Go By
That olde Silhouette, on the Great Western Sky
And I'll Pick out a Tune, and they'll Move right Along
And they're Gone Like Smoke,
and they're Gone Like this Song.

"Woman's Heart"

~I am willing to die for my people.
~Chief Theresa Spence:
Chief of Attawapistkat First Nation; Canada

"Idle No More"

Woman's Heart: Written in Honour of Chief Theresa Spence.

It
started as a Spark in a rundown Native town
a Woman got fed up with their Treatment by the crown
she said,"we can't make Something out of Nothing anymore"
it's time for things to Change, or our Heart will beat no more
she chose the Path of Love and Peace, a Path that could not fail
to bring the Truth into the Light, and the People's eyes unveil
she dared the crown to Meet her, and Speak of things to come
and if they Refused her Life would soon be done
you can't quench the Fire that burns in a Woman's Heart
for  It burns the Spirit of her Love
a Mother's true Desire is to see her People well
and She will Give her All to see that come
this becomes the Point at which my Sight begins to dim
but what was clear there was a Change upon the Wind
the People got behind Her and Rallied to Her Cause
they Stood as One to Fight oppressive Laws
it wasn't just the Natives that the crown  Betrayed
All the Peoples of the Land had Lost their Rightful say
the government did Dictate for those who worship Greed
and it Cared Not for any with a Need
they said,"Let them All Work harder, for the Fruits of Mother Earth
since they have no Money, then to us they have no Worth
we will Do as we please, as we have always Done
but they did not See what our Lady had Begun
the Wind  began to Blow upon our Lady's Spark
a tiny Flame began to grow in All the People's Hearts
the crowd of course began to lie and Stamp the Fire out
but the World had Heard our Lady's whispered shout
you can't quench the Fire that Burns in a Woman's Heart
for  It burns the Spirit of Her Love
a Mother's true Desire is to see her People well
and She will Give her All to see that come
the Wind of Truth blew harder and the Fire began to Spread
People could See clearly now, how we had been Mislead
we could See in the name of Greed this way had Long been going on
and there was Hope to see a Loving Dawn

You Can't Quench the Fire that Burns in a Woman's Heart
For in it Burns the Spirit of Her Love
A Mother's true Desire is to See her Children Well
And She will Give Her All to See That Come.

You Can't Quench the Fire that Burns in a Woman's Heart...

this meeting needs to take place, with the crown present, so open dialogue can begin. This is for the
benefit of allThis issue not only affects those in Canada,  its consequences are far-reaching.

~To Chief Theresa Spence: Our thoughts and prayers are with you-Unified and in One Voice.

"Sacred Tree"

The Olde Men Say the Earth Only Endures.
You Spoke Truly.
You Spoke Right.
                                                         ~Native American

I
  did Not Know then
 How Much was Ended.
When I Look back now From this High Hill of my Olde Age,
I can still See the Butchered Women and Children
Lying Heaped and Scattered
all  Along the Crooked Gulch
as plain as When my Eyes Saw Them with Eyes still Young.
And I can See that Something  Else
Died  there  in the Bloody Mud,
and was Buried there in the Blizzard.
A  People's  D ream  Died  There.
It  was  a  Beautiful  Dream...
the  Nation's  Hoop  is Broken  and  Scattered.
There is No Center any Longer,
and
the  Sacred  Tree
 is  Dead.

"Idle No More"

I
Weep  as  I  Hold
the Book, with  Encircled
Arms, close  to  my Chest.
I  think," Dear  God, What  have
we Done?"

<<+>>

"The  Earth  was Created
by  the  Assistance of  the  Sun,
and  it  should  be  Left as  it Was...
The  Country  was  made Without  Lines of  demarcation,
and  it  is NMan's  Business  to Divide it...
I  See  the Whites  all  over  the Country  gaining Wealth,
and  See   their  Desire  to Give  us  Lands  that  are Worthless...
The  Earth   and  Myself  are  of  One  Mind.
The  Measure  of  the Land  and  the Measure of  our Bodies are  the Same.
Say  to  us If  you Can  say it,  that  you  were  Sent  by  the Creative Power  to  talk  to us.
Perhaps you  think  the Creator sent  you  Here to dispose  of  us as  you  see  fit.
If   I  Thought  you  were Sent  by  the Creator  I  Might  be  Induced  to Think  you
had  the  Right  to  dispose of  me.
Do  Not  Misunderstand me,
but  Understand  Fully  with  my Affection  for  the  Land.
I  Never  said  the  Land   was  Mine to  do  as  I  Chose.
The  One  who  has  the Right  to  Dispose  of  it  is  the One  who  has Created it.
Claim  a  Right  to  Live on  my  Land,
and  Accord  you  the  Privilege  to  Live  on  yours.

"Willingness"

Here we  are, Loving One, Mystery, Light,
beginning  to  Quiet ourselves,
beginning  to be  Still;

remembering You Created  us
to  Flourish  in  Love,
remembering  an olde Desire  to Grow in You.

We   long  to  be  More  than  we  are  Living now,
we  long  to Live  all  we  can  Become
but,  fearful, wonder  How  we can.

W try to  Choose  the  Best  and Truest Path
but  stumble  in  our  Living  and  Choosing.
Wwant  to handle  things ourselves;

we'd  rather  make  it  on  our  own,
and  besides,
Trusting You, God, can  be very hard.

But  we  need  more Light, Your Light
to  See  the ways  Ahead,
we  Need  more Wisdom, Yours, to Choose
The Way  that's Well  for us.

Here  we  are, Beginning Willingness,
Beginning  to Trust, to Open ourselves,
our  Lives  and  Decisions
to Your  Illuminating  Light.
Here  we  are, Loving  One, ready to Begin.

"Blessing"

  <<+>>

 Once again,
we call upon the Ancestors,
upon all the Sacred Directions.
Father Sky, and Mother Earth, Creator, God,
we Humbly ask You for Strength and Courage to Speak up against
injustice, greed,
and the destruction of our Sacred Water, Air, and Earth.
We Pray that all Women
Respectfully Guide the Men,
standing Side by Side, Balancing the Energies
of Compassion, Generosity, and Love.
W Pray that all Nations Join together in Unity and Peace.
We ask for Help to Remember to be
 True Human Beings,
to Live in Goodness for Humanity and all Living Beings.
We place our Decisions and Actions to help Heal our Earth Mother
so that Peace and Love will await our Next Generations.
May you Bless us so that
We will always Choose to Think
through
our
Hearts.

"Idle No More"

A
Nation
is not Conquered
until the
Hearts
of its
Women
are on the
Ground,
then it is done,
no matter how brave
its Warriors
nor how strong
the
 Weapons.
